His Angel: The Angel Trilogy Book One Page 11

Amy chose a white dress with high-gloss sequins and feather detail on the bottom. I am completely against it when she pulls it out of the dress bag, but I have to admit this dress is a show stopper and if I am going to, well like Amy said, ‘throw this caution shit to the wind’ I might as well do it in this dress. She also chose ridiculous heels. There is no way I can dance in these, so I’ve decided on a pair of baby pink four-inch metal-trimmed sandals with a front strap. They are perfect. I also decided to let my long dark locks fall free for once. Long hair is sexy and I need to be sexy tonight.

Amy decides on a multicolored V-neck mini, it too is dressed in sequin sparkles with nude pumps. With her perfect curvy body she will definitely be the center of attention tonight.

“Doll the car’s here, Harry just sent me a text,” she says while grabbing her clutch and smacking Dom on his ass.

Amy has spent several nights at his house this week. We haven’t talked about it, but I figure they’re doing well, at least I hope they are. I love the both of them and I want nothing more than for them to be together.

We exit my three-story apartment building to meet Harry outside. He has been with the Alexander family since I can remember. He’s a quiet man, but I remember he would laugh at Amy and me as he drove us around LA. He’s always very nice and not because he’s paid to be, but because he really is a very warm, friendly man. I smile as he holds the door.

  “Harry,” I greet him.

  “Ms. Hayes,” he nods.

We arrive curbside at en Fuego and Harry once again holds the door for us to exit. Amy asks that he stay close and then we head towards the door.

The same beast holds his place tonight. I’m so grateful to have Dom here so we don’t have to wait in the ridiculous line that has wrapped itself the full length of the street.

“Ms. Hayes.” The beast moves aside to allow us to enter.

“What the fuck?” Amy hisses. “What is that about?” she continues.

“What the hell are you asking me for?” I yell, making sure she can hear me over the loud music.

“Donovan,” Amy and Dom say at the same time.

“I seriously doubt it.” I laugh.

He can have any woman he wants and I’m not those women. I am most definitely not the kind of woman I saw here last Friday; tall, beautiful, glamorous.

“Ms. Hayes. Your presence is requested upstairs.” The tall, bald security guard I saw last Friday is standing in front of me now.

I look to Amy and Dom for answers; answers I know they don’t have.

“I’m sorry, but I’m here to have fun with my friends, not to be a plaything for your boss,” I snap.

The look on baldy’s face says he doesn’t know how he’s going to explain this to Mr. Mysterious.

“Ma’am, I would really appreciate you coming with me.” There is a plea in his words, but I don’t care. I’m not going to have a man tell me what to do, not anymore.

“I’m good, thanks.” I walk away, grabbing Amy and Dom’s hands pulling them along as I storm off.

“He’s going to be SO pissed,” Amy announces.

  “I don’t give a shit.”

Amy and Dom’s brows lift in question. I feel the sudden need to stop the foot stomping I feel I’ve been taking most of my life.

“He’s a bad dude and I don’t think Evan would like it if you did go,” Dom speaks.

Why the fuck would Evan give a shit what I do? He hasn’t even called me. It’s Marco all over again. I should go up there right this second just to spite Evan.

I hang my head in defeat, because I could never do that. I want Evan more than anything I have ever wanted.

Pitbull’s Don’t Stop The Party blares from the speakers; the dance floor is packed. Pitbull knows how to get people moving, that’s for sure.

Dom claims our table as Amy and I make our way to the bar. I decide to try something new when I see the woman next to me drinking a blue martini. It reminds me of Evan’s eyes, the pools of lust.

We head back to our table with a beer for Dom, a blue martini for me, and some kind of cocktail I’ve never heard of for Amy.

The blue martini is perfect. I quickly drink the cool drink within a few minutes and am ready for another. Dom heads to the bar this time.

“Let’s go to the ladies’ room before I’m in big trouble. I cannot hold my alcohol. Geez.” Amy has to pee after three drinks of her bottled water. I laugh to myself. Some things never change.

The line is surprisingly short and Amy and I are tending to business in no time. We touch up our lip gloss in the mirror, laughing and having the best time.

“Oh look Gail, it’s the girl who tried to get with Donovan last Friday. Are you back for more rejection? I went home with him last Friday and I’ll be going home with him tonight.” The tall, busty blonde in a shorter mini than Amy--and that is definitely saying something--continues to the stalls, laughing as her pumps click on the floor. I turn back towards the mirror, rolling my eyes.

I don’t see it coming but she falls back on her ass as a familiar tall, exotic woman in a black mini and boots that climb up her thighs punches said woman in the face and walks out of the bathroom giving me a little wink as she does. I didn’t even see where she came from.

“Oh shit!” Amy hisses as she grabs me by the elbow pulling me out of the ladies’ room.

“I can’t even believe that just happened.” We laugh. That girl, woman, or whatever she is, had that coming to her.

Amy and I travel through the groups of people to find Dom sitting at our table. She relays the details of our bathroom visit with him.

“I wonder why that chick would just knock the shit out of her like that,” she says.

“That lady seems very familiar. Do we know her?” I ask Amy. I can’t put my finger on it.

“Isn’t she the girl that Evan was talking to last weekend?” Amy asks.

“Yes, I knew I had seen her before. I wonder what that chick did to piss her off.”

“Well she’s my hero.” Amy laughs.

I’m not sure why Evan was talking to her that night or how he knows her, but I like her.

After five blue martinis I’m feeling a little woozy. Dom and Amy are on the dance floor. I’ve danced through a few songs and now I’m cooling down at the table alone. Evan is weighing heavy on my mind; he’s all I can think about. His touch, his kiss, his touch again. I can’t get him off of my mind. Damn it.

“All alone?” a familiar accent rings behind me. I circle my stool around to see Donovan standing there.

“I am. Well, for the moment anyway,” I slur, damn these blue martinis are silent, but deadly.

“Ma’am,” I hear from my right. A tiny blonde is placing another blue martini in-front of me.

“I didn’t order this,” I say, but as quickly as she arrives she disappears.

“I don’t want you to have to travel all the way to the bar. I prefer to cater to you here. Well, I would prefer to cater to you from upstairs. But you refused my kindness.” His tone says that he might be a little annoyed with me, but the smile on his lips say he’s intrigued.

“Oh yeah, thank you for the name on the list thing. But, just because you put my name on the list doesn’t give you the right to assume I’m interested in hanging out with you…I’m just having fun with my friends, but seriously thank you.” Inner sexy bitch is coming out to play apparently because I’d never be that bold.

I’m beginning to get a little dizzy as I finish the second drink the blonde waitress has brought me, which isn’t like me after just a few drinks. Well the five plus these two.

Donovan is sitting on the stool next to me. “I can’t get you out of my head Abigale.” The deep stare in his eyes says this is definitely annoying him.

His admission takes the wind out of my lungs. I wasn’t expecting that at all. I’m nothing like the women I saw around him the first time we met.

“The girl that you took home last Friday. What’s her name? Maybe she
can help you forget about me.” I want to laugh. He probably hasn’t considered that question or my disinterest in him coming up. Well, maybe I shouldn’t be underestimated.

The look on his face is priceless and says I’m absolutely correct. “No one, why?” Oh please Mr. Damassi I want to say, but I just wave my hand in the air instead.

“Hey babe, there you are.” Holy shit, the girl that got knocked on her ass in the bathroom approaches Donovan, placing her hands on his shoulders as if to claim him. I do laugh now.

“Speak of the devil.” I hum

She glares at me with venom in her eyes.

“Oh, we were just talking about you,” I announce sarcastically.

Her hands are seductively smoothing down his arms now. She thinks I want him, but little does she know I only want one man. I pull the martini glass to my lips, taking the liquid into my mouth in an attempt to cool down from the overheated club.

“Ramey, I’ll speak with you later,” he turns his head and growls. Ramey walks away mouthing bitch as she passes.

“Well, you have a real winner there.” I take another drink. “I’m sure you’ll be very happy together, now if you’ll excuse me.” I say annoyed

I stand from my seat, my head spinning from the sudden contact my feet make with the floor. I’m holding onto the table for dear life, scared I will fall. My hearing muffled, my vision contorted, all of the feeling in my hands suddenly gone as my body falls to the stone floor.

  Evan

This week has been a bitch. Being undercover for any length of time is hard, but when you have someone waiting for you it’s beyond hard. There isn’t any way I know of to describe that shit. In this line of work I can’t just say to someone, “Hey I’m going undercover call if you need me.” Shit just doesn’t work that way. I’m gone till I’m gone, end of.

The fucked up part of what I do is the role playing. I have to portray someone else. Well, I guess I do that every day anyway, but the dark shit I have to do is something on a whole other level. And the shit I had to do this week will ruin me if it ever gets out.

I feel like I’ve been changing a little. I feel lighter, less weight on my shoulders being around Abby. I’ve been feeling like I can move forward with no doubts. Ok, I’m probably completely full of shit knowing what I know about the most important person in Abby’s life and what happened to her. But, I feel like I can be what Abby needs and deserves me to be. If given half the chance I will at least try.

There is a false bottom in this theory though. The truth is, I have taken my demons off of the leash I hold on to so tightly, I need to protect her. She’s the only good thing in my life, she’s so pure and whether I want to admit it or not I’m tainting that purity every day that I choose to be with her.

Do I sacrifice the one thing I have wanted since I first laid eyes on her or do I follow through and kill every motherfucker along the way? I’m going to hell anyway, that much I do know. Do I say, “I’m dangerous for you”? Fuck no I can’t do that shit.

I’m a liar and now I’m a fucking cheat. The shit that I had to do while I was gone will never be forgiven. There is nothing good about me, nothing. I’m just like my father like it or not. I have chosen to accept it and embrace it, it’s probably why I’m so good at what I do.

Speaking of my father. My phone rings and I’m sure he needs to tell me what a fuck up I am.

  “E,” I answer.

“I need to see you,” he says.

Thomas Carter is a selfish sadistic bastard and I will never forgive him for the shit he has done to me and the shit I know he did to my mother.

“What do you need? I’m in the middle of something.” I can’t stand this man, my skin crawls with hate for him.

Growing up with a father so far up the government’s ass he can tell you what dinner is going to be. I’m sure it isn’t cool because he thought he was invincible. As much as he knows I hate him for the shit that he has done he makes sure that the right people have my back, I never get in trouble for a fucking thing. I could more than likely walk into a bank, rob them, kill a couple of people and walk out clean with the building surrounded.

That’s how far up the ladder he goes. The conspiracy theories that people are always talking about, yea they’re true, well most of them anyway. Nine out of ten chances my father is either in on most of them or has been at some point. That can be some scary shit. I haven’t told him about Abby and I don’t plan to now or ever, but if he’s as good as I know he is, then he already knows and that can be more dangerous than Marco, Donovan, and Monica all rolled up into one.

“Remember who it is you’re speaking to Evan. I need to see you. Can you fly to D.C. next week?”

I haven’t seen or spoken to Thomas in a year and all of a sudden he needs to have a pow-wow.

“What’s the big rush? I have shit that I’m dealing with right now.”

“Can you make plans or do I need to set aside your priorities?” His voice never misses a beat. Knowing what I know means I better do as I’m told.

“Yea, I will set it up and touch base with you next week. Does that make you happy father?”

“It does, but Evan,” he pauses, “leave your sarcasm in LA. If I don’t hear from you next week I’ll send someone to look for you and I’m sure you don’t want that. Do I make myself clear?”

“Yea I got it, I’ll talk to you next week.” I press the end button ending the call.

  Fuck!

  My phone rings again.

  “E.”

“Better get over to the club, Abby doesn’t look so good.” Natalia says.

“What the fuck are you talking about?”

“She’s on the first level, Donovan is all over her and his homeboys are close by. Do you want me to step in? I’m itching to take that dirty brasileiro out.” I’m sure Natalia has a smirk on her face especially since she’s breaking out the Portuguese. She hates this scum more than I do.

“Fuck, where are her friends, aren’t they with her? I called Dom a little while ago when Abby didn’t answer her phone and he said they were all together.”

“Yea they were and maybe still are, but I haven’t seen them in a while, hell maybe that’s his plan E,” Natalia says, she’s probably completely right on target with her thinking.

“Ok I’m on my way, keep an eye on her, give me 10 minutes, and if they hurt her kill every fucking one of them.”

“Aww is it Christmas already? That’s one hell of a bonus.” She laughs, she’s just as fucked up in the head as I am.

  “Just watch her.”

  “Done.”

I’m already on my way to en Fuego. I haven’t been able to get in touch with Abby so I called Dom. As soon as he told me she was there I got in my car and headed that way. I don’t want her in that shithole without me, that’s for damn sure.

I pull my Hummer up around the corner into a parking lot. I don’t want them to see me coming. I’m wearing a suit; not the best attire for the ass kicking I’m about to give, but it’ll do.

I step out of the Hummer and slide my forty-five behind my back into my pants, pull my jacket over the heavy metal, set the car alarm, and walk down the street to the large building. The street is busy, I’m guessing the people that are walking around are either going to or leaving from en Fuego.

I turn the corner and walk around the gathering crowd that are alongside the wall. I take note that the doorman is Vito, he’s 32 years old, no kids, and has never married. He’s around three hundred pounds and as much as he looks all muscle he’s not, his weakness is his left wrist, it was snapped in three places during a fight. Yea I do my homework. He’s easy.

There are three more assholes out here and I’m sure that it’s just a coincidence. I’m not totally convinced these douchebags know who I am just yet, but they will soon enough. A woman throws herself in front of me. I don’t react I only step to my left and swing around so that my back is to her. I step towards Vito and give a name.

  “Dominic Ca
sta.” He’s always on the lists. I think it’s his PR chick that makes sure he’s in the party scene when he needs to be.

“Go ahead,” he grumbles. That was easy enough.

I enter through the door and from my left a tall bald guy known as “Silent” attacks. I step back to get my footing, grab his right arm with my left and twist it behind his back. My right arm holds his head against the wall.

“Where is she?” I growl in his ear.

Either Donovan is trying to keep me from my girl because he thinks I’m just an ordinary dude and he can or he knows at what lengths I will go to get her back because he knows exactly who I am. The only reason he would know what I’m capable of is if someone in his sick, dark world told him. I count on that happening if it hasn’t already.

Yea bitch you better know what I will do to your ass.

I have asked Abby to stay away from that piece of shit Donovan. The sick stuff Donovan is involved in includes drugs, guns, prostitution, and I’m convinced he’s in the sex slave trade business. I can’t prove it, but I know the agents on the FBI side of things are investigating and have agents deep in this organization trying to get his ass.

Silent fights back as I push him into an alcove and bash his head against a water fountain. I have a good hold on him, but he breaks free and pulls a knife out and waves it around. First lesson in that shit is; don’t attack someone with something you don’t also want to be attacked with.

I duck when the knife comes at my head. Yea my fucking head. Where the hell did this douche learn how to stab someone? What a joke. I twist my body to the right changing from our face to face position to him now being on my left. I quickly step back with my left foot, grab his right hand with my left once again, applying pressure and twisting his wrist. The knife falls easily to the floor.
